Decorating The Office/Playroom

I was in a desperate need for an ARTISTIC outlet the other day!
As I sat in the office thinking about what I could paint, since canvas have been a shortage at my house right now...
I noticed how undecorated and unfinished the Office/Playroom was.
With no serious pocket change, I thought I would use whatever paint I had,
whatever supplies I had and go from there.

The painting above my computer is one I made a few weeks ago called
"yes you can"
it's not quite completed yet either... but you get the point.

The Office/Playroom Before
Half Stripes... Half painted... Half done.
{sorry the only pic I had of the office before... yes that's how bad it was}

The green paint to me at first seemed way to BRiGHT...
but once I started with the blue paint it looked incredible with the BRiGHT green.
I love it now!!
The kids table was painted black on top, but the kids had painted colors all over it, so I went with chalkboard paint on top. Now, they can write ALL over it!
I also screwed a small basket to the table to hold chalk so that
it wouldn't get lost in ALL of the other crayons and markers.

I spent $20 @ The Dollar Store getting roller brushes to paint with, ribbon, tacks and bins. Everything else came from the garage. lol!

The old bulletin board was just plain brown.
Now it is BRiGHT and fun for the kids art work and pictures.
I bought the fabric awhile back @ DI {aka good will}
and used spray adhesive to attach it to the bulletin board.
You can see the finish bulletin board in the first picture posted above. I bought the BRiGHT green ribbon @ The Dollar Store

These two walls are not complete yet... what color to paint them?
I am out of the cute blue, but I have the green, some fancy yellow and some really retro orange!
We will see what flavor I am feeling like.

The cute birdcage hanging from the ceiling is from DI {aka good will}
that I bought a few weeks ago for $3.00
I spray painted it the same blue that's around the bulletin board.
Empty frame also DI for $1.00 spray painted yellow and
will soon hold a CUTE lil' pic of my rugrats!
I also want to put this HUGE bulletin board on the blue wall for MY items. I found it @ DI {aka good will} for $5.00 It need some work, hence why it's not hanging up, but I will post her beauty after I recreate her. :)
I screwed these brackets to the wall so Evie and JD can hang their paintings up. They are easy for them to reach and to change out {Evie's isn't up in this pic yet} I also put each of their names in the rectangle in the middle.
The puzzles were always such a mess and hard to find. This way is sooo much easier. ALL of the puzzle pieces are in the blue bucket and the puzzle bas are filed in a 'folder filer' sitting next to the bucket. I love how neat and organized they look now.
The blue and green plastic bins below I also purchased @ The Dollar Store

I will post again... once the room is entirely complete!

It's tradition for my mom, my sisters and I to go fight the crowds during

A thrift kitchen for my lil' for Christmas.

This could be interesting... hopefully it turns out the way my mind's eye is seeing it!

-I love that it's on wheels.
-I can design it so she can play on BOTH sides of the kitchen

As some of you know... I've been doing a small tour of 'my home'
but I completely forgot the entry table!
So here it is...
The beautiful table I purchased at Pier 1 {love that place}
The mirror is from SAVOY HOUSE!

This lil' creepy crawler I made from a mason jar.
I painted the lid with chalkboard paint {looks like someone's lil' fingers got to my 'boo'}
then I filled it with some ribbon and creepy crawlers.
This cute lil' witch hat says "the witch is in"
I HEART this! I HEART witches and really need to expand my lil' collection!

This cutie was made by my mom!
Talented momma! Love her and love this witch!

Part 4 'my house'

the kitchen
I would love to get a wide variety of purple, green and blue glass to place above mt cabinets. It's hard to find the right fit for up there, so this is what I have so far.

Some day I would like to put bead board on the bottom of the cabinets. It is high on my
'To Do, Want' list... that is on hold until my Christmas shopping gets done.
Black decor is from Home Depot. They were cream and I spray painted them.
Beautiful flowers are from my hubby. Isn't he the greatest? I think so. Fork and Spoon I found at a yard sale, along with the 7up glass. {10 cents) "trick or treat, smell my feet"
The small mirrors above the pantry door I found at a Dollar Store a LONG time ago. I think I've had them for almost 8 years now! Yikes! Scary! They just fit so well there.

I've never, ever liked my cabinets, but they will do for now. I'd love to put a glaze over the top of them but I need to do a little research before I dive into that.

PART 3 of 'my house'
the living room

When we originally moved into our house, we had planned on changing out the carpet at some point. Well, thanks to a great tax return... ya! We were able to do just that last spring. Here are the before and after pictures {of the living room}
{before... ok more like a pic after they took it out the yuck!}

As I always mention... there are SO many things I would change in here now. I feel like my education of decorating has grown leaps and bounds looking at every ones blogs.
So, bare with me, it's not perfect but we call it HOME.

Halloween CHEAP & EASY

Making a BIG statement for Halloween
isn't as expensive as you may think...
check out what I did for under $10

we have a river close by our house and I went down there to find tree limbs that had already be broken off trees. I searched for limbs that had a lot of twisted 'scary' looking branches coming off of it. my sweet lil' Evie helped me with this. We found about 6 good, tall, spooking looking limbs and threw them in the back of our truck.

then I used a can or two {maybe 3} of black spray paint. gloss or satin will work. spray paint the limbs, now I didn't spray mine completely
but just enough to 'hide' any fresh looking parts of the branch. this gives the branches a very
haunted look rather then just a tree limb hooked to your house.
then I used bungee cords to attach the limbs to the stucco columns of my house.
{to hide the bungee cords, wrap black ribbon around them}
One branch I found curved perfectly around the entrance of my house. I wanted to create a 'entry way' look. I then bought the fake barb wire from Dollar Tree and also black crows from Dollar Tree, and placed them sporadically throughout the branches.
you could also add purple or orange tulle and tie them into the branches. It definitely gives it a little more pop! I've done this now but hadn't when I took these pics. Also, this looks GREAT with my white pumpkins with the purple & orange tulle tied to the top of them.

'my house' PART 2

EVIE's room

My lil' song bird! Her room is so fun!

-I bought her bed @ Down East $250 {that was a splurge for me}
-The doll house 'bookcase' is from Target. I believe we got this for $40
-The dresser was a 'hand me down' from my beautiful sis-in-law. I bought the floral fabric and covered the four drawers using fabric glue. Then took yellow acyrlic paint and just brushed it over the entire dresser.
-The tree I painted and love. You can see HERE how I did it.
-The flower lights above her bed are from IKEA. I believe they were $4.00 or so.
-Pink chandiler is so beautiful! I love love love it! It's from Savoy House.
-Her bedding I bought at Walmart for $10.00 hehe!
This is the wall her bed is up against. I painted it the same pink color that the tree is and also painted a yellow rectangle. It's a perfect spot for her to clip all of her art up. She can stand on her bed and change them out as she wants. I used pink satin ribbon and regular cloths line clips. {they are easy for her to open}

Things that I want to change:
The back legs on the dresser are completley broken off! yep! I want a taller dresser that doesn't take up as much room. Preferably antique white, like her bed. The book case, though fun, drives me crazy! It's always messy and now she wants a kitchen for Christmas, so I think this will be out and a new wood kitchen will replace it. Her bedding is ok but I bought it with the intention of changing it to something nicer one day. Now, three years later, that ONE day just never came around.

Needless to say, I am blessed and grateful for the love I have around me and the house I have over my head. Just wish that money tree would sprout soon!

{framed golden metal leaf, I found @ TJ Maxx. It was 50% off because the corner of it is dented a lil' but I think it gives it character. I LOVE feathers & leafs}

{'family' block I made at a church thang. the 3 frames be low it I LOVE, they are clear so it looks like the photos are floating in the frames. beautiful. I believe I bought them
@ Kohls when they were 40% off. The metal, scroll 'C' I bought at TJ Maxx for $2.00}

{I absolutely LOVE our chandelier. I would've gone a little more 'out there' if I had ordered it recently but at the time I wanted something general. It fits well and looks amazing from the window outside. It is from SAVOY house}
{The large frames going up the stairs are pictures of tulips that my hubby gave me. I love the detail in them and they remind me to smile when I am mad at
him for forgetting to take out the trash! lol! }
{square frame below window: I bought @ Target awhile back and placed a small shelf below it that I bought at a yard sale $2.00 Above it is one of those 'trendy' sayings about families. lol! I hate it but forget about it when I go to change things}
{This is a shelf I have above the coat closet. I haven't 'mastered' what I want up there yet. The basket I bought @ Roberts (local craft store) along with the black leafs inside of it. I purchased the BIG painting at a yard sale for $8.00}

Things I want to CHANGE. I want to darken the railing going up the stairs. I have seen other posts on doing this, and have heard it is a pretty easy project.
Also, I have recently painted my trim white. When we put in new carpet I did this, so there would be more of a contrast in the house. I LOVE it!

Kitchen Touch Up!

I've never been that excited about the cabinets we have in our kitchen, so I came up with a lil' touch up to bring some new life back into them.
Knobs: I bought @ IKEA. They were $1.00 for a package of two. I love the black and the contrast against the cabinets is perfect. They are a little larger then I had originally wanted but
when I brought them home they fit like a glove.
Scroll Detail: I used acrylic black paint and a stamp that I fell in love with.
I wanted to add a little more detail to them and I think that look beautiful! Not exactly what I have in my "i Want" list but it will do for now. lol! {decorating mom.. never satisfied} but content.

Thrift Party Time!

On Friday, I picked up my fellow 'thrift lovin' friend and we went to the DI {good will}.

I think we spent more time laughing at all the great Halloween costumes then we did actually shopping but needless to say we had a GRAND time.

A HUGE roll of this black and white ribbon {stuff} NOT sure what to do with it yet... but it's perfect for something SPOOKY! $1.00 {yep! for the whole ROLL are you serious people?}
This lil' beauty is what I will be sporting this HALLOWEEN, not sure what with yet, but I couldn't resist it! Beautiful BRIGHT colors and the pattern is soooo classic.
It has a huge ruffle bottom that I am super excited to flaunt. $5.00
Do you love it? Do you? Do you? I DO! ! ! and I CANNOT wait to use it to cover an old chair. Absolutely perfect! $1.00
I am obsessed latley with hummingbirds
and though ours have left for the winter... I found this great feeder for only $1.00

There is something so theraputic about thrift shops. I love the thrill of the 'hunt' and the good deals but I also love how relaxing it can be. You can't rush it. You can't run in and run out. I love to go and take my time up and down each isle, just admiring the things people buy and the things people consider "useless" I love using my creative mind to look at something and change it into something completely different.
It's a passion. It's a pleasure. It's a release.
Now, if I could ONLY explain this to my husband. lol!

HOW 2 THRiFT SHOP part 2 of {part 1} CLOTHES

I will keep this one brief... I promise. lol! Who can talk about clothes but NOT talk about JEANS. Not ME I tell you! Not me!

PART 2 of 1 {clothes}

TIP 1
pockets people! pockets. The "trick" with jeans... if you got junk in your trunk you don't need it in your pockets. {make sense} Go with a sleeker looking jean without a lot of "bedazzle" on your behind. Now, if your more like me and could us a little more cushion back there go for the GOLD! FUN, funky, flapped pockets. They will give you a push where you need it most. Again, it doesn't have to BE the DESIGNER jeans that only look FABulous! The best FIT wins!

TIP 2
double. double. check stains, rips, broken zippers, missing buttons and such. Keep in mind, jeans can be cut to shorts or capri's. A frayed pair of cut offs is A OK with me.

Jeans are tricky and you really have to try on. try on. try on. YOU will find a pair that fits just right. JEANS are a hard find at thrift stores and your best bet is to NOT give up.
Find a brand YOU love and stick with it.

Having a HARD time finding thrift jeans? Then SPLURGE on the jeans and go THRIFT every where else. Two things I'm willing to pay FULL price for... jeans & shoes.
Mix it up with your thrift shirt and "cheap" jewelry for a FABulous thrift look!

I love him sooooo much. Made of wood and just needs a lil' paint to bring him back to life. Found @ the DI {goodwill}

Found 3 of these small wood frames with canvas in the middle. They were $1.00 each. I tore off the canvas, replaced it with textured wall paper, that I had painted. Spray painted the frames black. Then added music paper around the edges to give it more character.

CLOTHES

This is actually how I started thrift shopping... for clothes! I am a HUGE fashion guru! I love to wear things that are different and a little out of the ordinary. My favorite thing right now is to mix something "girlie" with something a little more punk.

For Example: a cute Rolling Stone T-shirt with skinny jeans with chandelier gold earrings.

I easily get BORED with what is in my closet, so THRIFT shopping was my way of getting something "NEW" without getting divorced. :)

Did you know: we wear 20% of our wardrobe 80% of the TIME. hhmmm {just a little interesting tid bit for ya}

a little 411: brand names: {to me} are retail stores such as, aeropostale,
abercrombie, forever 21 or hollister ect.
designers: {to me} are Paolo, Steve Madden or Juicy Couture ect.

WHAT To LOOK FOR:
Name brands seem to be what MOST people hunt for and though I do AGREE, I also DISAGREE. Yes, you can find way cute aeropostale, abercrombie, forever 21 or hollister items {those seem to be the popular stores in UT and though I hate to admit: UT is a few YEARS behind most states when it comes to FASHIoN. Scary but TRUE} BUT if you don't want to be wearing the same shirt as your neighbor... Look for DESIGNERS! YES, they are there I PROMISE and with a little education and patience you will find them!

FIRST: educate yourself
Go to your fav stores and find what labels you are LOVING. Look online to see what TOP shoe designer is HOT right now. {NORDSTROMS} is a BIG one for me. They carry great stuff @ a price I can't afford. Search out what DESIGNERS you love and to familiarize yourself with their names.

MOST people {ok, here in UT anyhow} will walk right passed a Paolo SHOE not realizing the average cost of THAT shoe would be any where from $65.00-$165.00

EDUCATE yourself so YOU aren't one of those people :) Get that shoe for $6.00!

a little 411:I'm NOT baggin' on UT but reality is... most people do NOT know designers here. Thus, making it easier for people like me to get the 'second hand' designer items from those few around here who do love fashion.

Same price as you might pay @ DI.
Look for things that are TRULY a GOOD deal.

a little 411: Forever 21 does carry some UNIQUE jewelry. Most items are under $10.00. Do NOT forget to accessorize ladies! It can make or BREAK your entire outfit!

OMG! This post is HUGE and I haven't even got to jeans or shoes really. hhhmm this might have to be a {Part 2} but a part 1 of a part 2. Am I making sense??
Hope you can follow my insanity!

Ok, a few small TIPs ok actually BIG tips:

TIP {1} Look for unusual TAGS. Yep, I said TAGS.
Most "expensive" clothing have wicked TAGS!
Something unique and different. Also, remember to check for holes, tears, balled up material {screams USED. you DON'T want it to look USED you just want the PRiCE of used} and stains! If you don't look close you might buy something you CAN'T even wear. NOT FUN.
{yes, I've done this TOO many times}

TIP{2}It doesn't have to be ANYTHING. Not designer, not brand name... not anyone BUT cute. fashionable. different. fits well.
Look for something that looks AMAZING, whether the TAG says it or not!
Let your confidence say it's BAD "a" and people around you will WANT it.

WEAR everything and ANYTHING with confidence!

TIP{3}afraid your friends might ask you where you got your CUTE find... and yes they WILL ask: always go with NORDSTROMS {or another store you admire}
Your words should be, "oh this, I got it awhile ago @ {store}"
that way your friends won't RUSH out to get the SAME one and surprisingly NOT find it.
Or
If your SHAMELESS like me, I brag about how much it COST me! :)

THRIFT SHOPPING HAS BECOME A LOT MORE ACCEPTABLE THESE DAYS or at least people are more willing to talk about the fact that they thrift shop BUT before I hated to admit I bought something THRIFT.

I buy a LOT of my kids clothes THRIFT {it's harder now that my son is older}
and I would drag them with me.
Instead of them running around to tell everyone we just went to the DI... I would call it JACK'S
My daughter would say... "this is sooo CUTE mom. Where did you get it?"
I'd say, "@ JACKS babe."

I'm sure there are some frustrated MOM's out there wondering where this mysterious JACK's store is that carries such CUTE kids clothes. lol!

Remember FASHION repeats itself. repeat. repeat. 70's 80's 60's it ALL comes back.
Fun thing about thrift shopping, you might find that wicked shirt that really was from the 70's and TOTALLY in style once again.
I LOVE IT so much!

Be patient. Look for that GOOD deal.
Find that JEWEL and have FUN!

"how to" THRIFT shop

It's NO secret I LOVE to thrift shop and as I was searching for new treasures the other day, it made me think about doing a "how to" post for thrift shopping. So thus, begins a three part post of "how to" thrift shop, for those of you who are just {fresh} to this whole thrift thang!

(keep in mind: some of these tips prefer to a {DI} or Desert Industries. I'm sure Good Will & Savers are similar to the layout of their stores as well)

PART {1}

The YARD AREA. In some {DI's} you could almost miss this ENTIRE section if your not looking for it. It's usually where they keep bikes, outdoor furniture, outdoor toys, sports items and tools. Most likely will be behind LARGE swinging black doors. {each store is a tad different} I call this area the "HIDDEN JEWELS" I find most of my items in this section and mostly because in the PROVO {DI} where I usually am, they bring out ALL of the NEW items to put out in this area.

WHAT To LOOK FOR? {YARD AREA}

Larger frames. Remember... paint. paint. paint. Almost anything and I mean ANYTHING can have some NEW and exciting life brought back into it with a little paint. {hate to paint?} SPRAY PAINT! It is faster, easier and gives a more even coat on your projects. Look for chunkier frames that have a little more character, something you wouldn't see in retail stores now. The best part about THRIFT shopping is, you will most likely found a JEWEL that not everyone has! Empty frames are not a loss. Hanging an arrangement of empty frames {same color or not} makes for a great "conversation piece" in ANY house.

Here is MINE.

{Just two empty frames inside one another. The leafing on the wall... I painted on a whim, but I think it works}{ chair canvas. don't you just love it? I want to eat this one. there is something so "comforting" about it. bought it for $2.00 Can't remember where :) }{this frame I bought at the Dollar Tree and it came in a pack of 3. :) I place just a simple feather inside and I'd have to say, it's one of my favs}

{ diversity is KEY! this one is my second favorite!}

Canvas Paintings. Most canvas paintings can be "repainted" Oils are harder to cover up but acrylic paints are easy to repaint. Find a LARGE canvas with a "not so cute" picture? REPAINT it or cover it with fabric. Remember... think OUTSIDE of the box! Most things have a GREAT base to work with. You just have to use a little imagination and some creativity.
{I was actually lucky enough to find this unused canvas. 24x36 for $7.00 Are you SERIOUS people? This would have cost me $45.00}

Lamps. Again focus on the BASE of the lamp. Any shade can be covered with new fabric or replaced with a new lamp shade. Look for something unique. I love 70's style lamps. HUGE lamp shades a great detail.

Mirrors. mirrors are fantastic no matter what! They make a room seem larger and you can put them in ANY room. Look for one with a lot of detail. Spray paint and sand down to bring out the dimensions of the mirror.
FUN IDEA: Make a "princess mirror" I found this great oval shaped mirror for my daughters room that I placed low enough that she can see herself in it. She has a blast playing
{dress up} and looking at herself in the mirror.
BEST ADVICE: {if you don't have a lot of room in your house}
Try to buy only items that you will be able to get to that week or the next. I have found, I start to lose interest in an item if I let it sit in the garage too long. Too often the item ends up donated back to where I just bought it from. Stick to one project a week. Maybe a few frames or a mirror, depending on your time.
THRIFT SHOPPING can be so relaxing. Don't push it! You might go a few times and find NOTHING and then go back a few days later and find more then you can imagine!

Make it fun, take your friends, enjoy the hunt and
the fact that your wallet still has money in it!

I did the Mountain Aire Market Saturday in Cedar Hills. The park was a perfect layout for a Market such as this. The tall trees and the cement path made it a beautiful ambiance. The live music was a must, the free kids booths were FABulous, the company was grand and my booth was a success!

Thank you Cindy for the invite.

It was fun sharing some of my "art work" with the local neighbors and friends.

#2 The Cupboard Door {sold}

Just a simple little door with a LOT of character. A small touch of sanding, spray paint and Voilà! I think she is absolutely unique, stylish and eye catching. I really think you could hang this on your wall in any way. Upside down, right side up... side ways. Endless amount of options.

I am fascinated with tattoo artist and their amazing talent. I am intrigued with the way they can create such unbelievable art with a needle. I'm a HUGE fan of LA Ink and was so excited to get Kat Von D's latest book. I haven't put it down yet. It is full of wicked pics of some incredible tattoos and Kat's story of becoming the icon that she is now.

Kat... you inspire me! Thanks for such a FUN  book.
I can't wait to read the next one.

Thrifty Finds = black frame DI $1.00... Big "C" DI $3.00

Ok... so my projects yesterday turned out to be BIG projects.

I was thinking I'd do a few some ones that I had sitting in the garage, but instead I tackled some BIG unfinished projects.

Here's the list:

#1 This beauty I found @ the DI, while shopping with some new friends. It matched the yellow in my bedroom perfectly and considering my last name starts with a C...

I figure it was made for ME!

It was made to be placed on a shelf, but I couldn't find anywhere to place it so... I hung it on the wall instead. My son said it's a perfect spot for the remote. :)

#2 The GREEN wall.
My living room wall was a mosh posh of colors and when we put the new carpet in, it just didn't seem to fit, so I went with truly olive instead. I had already started this lil' project but I finished it yesterday and I'd have to say it is much more inviting then before.

(goal... waiting to paint ladder to hang on that wall and post pictures in it. So, the items hanging there now are actually too small for the space. I can't wait to show y'all!)

#3 I found this frame @ the DI, awhile back and spray painted it black {it was cream} $1.00

I found these amazingly beautiful pictures of birdcages in an old Martha Stewart magazine {also bought @ the DI .25 cents) I glued it to the inside and realized it was wrinkling but I liked it, so I let it take it's own shape. At one point, parts of the color started to wear off a lil' and I thought that just gave it more character.

What do you think?
Pretty cheap fun decor for $1.25

#4 Evie's room. I had already made a "tree" out of cardboard but I was really never satisfied with it. I painted the opposite wall a BRIGHT pink and wanted to tie that into the rest of the room, so I took down the "tree" sanded down the glue, filled in some holes and started a creative burst! I had bought the birdcages @ Michaels with this lil' project in mind.

They were .99 cents each and I found this perfectly, matching birds @ The Dollar Tree.
I played back and forth with what to put in the birdcage "frames" and decided that they looked best opened.
Evie {LOVES } it and it really opened up a little play space for her. It took me hours... but it was well worth it. Evie woke up this morning and said, "mama, thanks for making my room beautiful!" aaaahhhh!

{I ended up moving the flower lights over to the other side of the window. They were too bright above her bed and actually look cuter by the tree. Her bed is now place on the solid pink wall that displays her art work}

#5 The office... oh man, the office/play room/where should I put this? uuummm the office. I had started to paint it this obnoxious green, thinking it would be bright and hip. It wasn't! It was more "glow in the dark" hurt your eyes green. So, I wasted that gallon of paint. {yikes!} Now I am working on stripes. Not sure what color yet... I just know I want stripes. So I started the process... it might take awhile but I think it will be perfect!

So after I had broke the TWO back legs off of Evie's dresser, burnt my finger with the glue gun, got paint on Evie's bedspread, fell while standing on a chair, and felt completely dehydrated by the end of the day I realized...

It felt soooo great getting things accomplished. It truly lifted my spirits, to do what I love most. I hate when I lose myself in that unmotivated mode. It is very apparent I must CREATE to stay alive. It is my passion and without a passion in life, it's easy to lose track of who you are.

I am a happy mom, an appreciated wife, a loyal friend, a loving sister and a CREATOR of art!

oh, and my next project... a new dresser for Evie. whoops!

So, today as I was thinking... what should I do today?

and instead of continuing to say that until the day is GONE

(and since the hubby has cracked down on my thrift store budget because we ALL know the funnest par of "projects" is finding them in the first place)

I'm going to do what I LOVE the most.

I've been missing in action, in the blog world for a little while. I was getting the kids ready for school, school shopping and also working on a little project for a friend.
She was in need of a dresser/changing table for her "coming soon" baby girl.

I found this @ a yard sale. $20! Doesn't look like much!
Horrible laminate wood or whatever you would call it. The back was all ripped up and taped together with masking tape and the drawers were a little wobbly but I saw potential.
So I got it!
I pretty much took the whole thing apart. Some of the screws were loose and others were just put in wrong. I didn't want to give her something that was going to fall apart, so I redid the entire thing. It was well worth it.

The man @ Home Depot told me if I prime it with this first then I could paint it with whatever I wanted. I masked up for this one... this stuff is STRONG!
Use a foam roller brush so it applies smoothly.

I also painted the inside of the drawer pink and the inside of the cabinet door pink.
So cute!

I found pink glass knobs at an antique store we have close by and
also put a new, more sturdy back to it.
Knobs $12. New back $10

Found the baskets at Shopko,
lined and with a lid for only $6.88 a piece.
They fit perfect, as if they were made for it.

I LOVAAAAHHH it and Amber LOVED it to.
Success at it's finest.

Bought this beautiful cabinet door at DI (goodwill) for $5. It already had a wire and hooks on the back to hang, so I thought what better then to paint on it. I think it turned out perfect and such a LARGE piece for only $5. yay!

Oh, how I love birds. This little beauty I found lonely sitting at TJ Maxx and even though I was suppose to be school shopping with my son... I couldn't possibly leave her there. $2.99 She is much happier sitting on my entry table.

WINDOW SHOPPING... {part 1}

Oh, how I wish I had ALL the money in the world to feed my addiction of antique and thrift shopping... sadly but true there is no money tree in my back yard. Instead, I dragged the kids to a local antique mall that is located in Springville and took some pretty funky pics.

Here is a post to window shopping... so many fun finds, so little time and so can't buy them right now!
Isn't she beautiful? I can totally see her in a large closet area with shoe decor and colorful scarves hanging around her.
My wish... a HUGE bag of glass type writer keys to do as I may with.
Love him... love him... his leather was worn but so amazingly soft and the rivets were just the right touch. For a mere $19.99 he was hard to pass up.

a quaint little store was going out of business close to my house, so I took a trip to see what great treasures I could find...
these bright and happy apples were .25 cents each.

and the cute rod iron scroll basket was $1.00

not entirely happy with them inside this because you can't see them very well but it will do until a find a better glass holder for them.

I had great plans for this little cutie.
Since our office also serves as the play room I was destined to get rid of the HUGE roller chair and plastic mat it sat upon. Honestly, who needs a chair like that to blog?
Not me, I said.
So out went the BIG chair and in came BIG change! The "office/playroom" is still in the works... paint and all so that picture will have to wait.

But... the chair my friends is oh so happy to be introduced.

Not sure how well I did with it, but I HEART it, which in the end is ALL that really matters to ME.

As long as I can remember my Gma Lucy, sweet Lucy, had a chalkboard in her kitchen. I nearly had forgotten this little fact until

what I would write on my chalkboard of fame...

Gma Lucy's came to mind and I remembered it saying on a CONSTANT basis

I found this textured wall paper at the DI (goodwill) and for $1 I thought there must be SOMETHING I could do with this. So, it sat and it sat in my garage until I saw this wonderful BLOG http://thriftydecorchick.blogspot.com that painted this magnificent stuff and framed it above her mantle. Realizing that I had ALL that I already needed sitting in my garage {yes, even the perfect frame I bought at DI $4 } I jumped to my newest project with 
excitement.
I actually placed the textured wallpaper inside the frame before I painted it, only because the back of the frame was VERY secure and I figured I could paint it to the edge deep enough that the white would not show.

2 THAT...

I first just painted a small amount of bronze paint but it wasn't enough character for me so then I add the black paint in the corners thinking that would be ENOUGH but it still didn't look right... so I flew with it and added some colors that I have in my living room and I think it turned out 
JUST RIGHT!

I loved the gold tone in the frame and it matched some pillows I had bought recently, so I left it just as it was.

Total cost $5 plus a little paint I already had.
a lil' turquoise, a lil' orange, a lil' green 
Replaced the TOO small picture I had there before and aaawwww decorating satisfaction at it's best!

Seize the day just seemed to fit this little peacock piece of mine. So much character in such a simple tin pot. Definitely an eye catcher and for a mere $12 who can beat that? SEIZE THE DAY Y'ALL!

Yard sales were slow and go this weekend with the fourth but I did make a trip to the Goodwill better known as Deseret Industries here in UTAH.

So cute... magazine holder just painted the brown legs black. $2
